  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Roll out half of the dough and place it in a pie dish.
  4. In another bowl, toss apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Fill the pie crust with the apple mixture.
  5. Roll out the second half of the dough, place over the filling, and cut slits for steam to escape.
  6. Brush the top with egg yolk.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes.

Notes

  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for added indulgence.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar based on the sweetness of the apples.
