  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup red food coloring
  • 1/4 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the egg and both extracts.
  4. Combine the flour, salt, and baking powder; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
  5. Divide the dough in half. Color one half with red food coloring.
  6. Take a small amount of each dough and roll it into a rope. Twist the two ropes together and form into a candy cane shape.
  7. Place on ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
  9. Cool on wire racks before sprinkling crushed candy canes on top.

Notes

  • For a softer cookie, bake for a shorter time.
  • You can use green food coloring for a variation.
