- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 cup red food coloring
- 1/4 cup crushed candy canes
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg and both extracts.
- Combine the flour, salt, and baking powder; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
- Divide the dough in half. Color one half with red food coloring.
- Take a small amount of each dough and roll it into a rope. Twist the two ropes together and form into a candy cane shape.
- Place on ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
- Cool on wire racks before sprinkling crushed candy canes on top.
