Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil and continue boiling without stirring until it reaches the soft-ball stage (approximately 240°F).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and food coloring if desired.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool until it is safe to handle, then butter your hands and pull the taffy until it becomes light in color and airy.
  5. Cut into pieces and wrap in wax paper.
